J. Mark DeNicola, CPA, CGMA, CMA serves as Chief Financial and Strategy Officer for Centriworks (formerly Thermocopy), a Knoxville‑based business technology company where he has spent 33 years helping guide the organization’s evolution and growth.
Mark has been instrumental in transforming Centriworks from a traditional office equipment sales and service company into a technology‑driven organization delivering managed services and cybersecurity solutions to its clients. During his tenure, company revenue increased organically from under $5 million in 1993 to more than $18 million in 2023, reflecting disciplined financial leadership and long‑term strategic vision. Under his executive leadership, Centriworks has earned national recognition, including being named “Dealer of the Year” by ImageSource Magazine for its forward‑thinking corporate strategy and marketing approach.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mark was the Founder and Chair of Spectrum Design, a subsidiary of Centriworks that operated as a premier communications and brand management firm serving both emerging and established organizations. Under his leadership, the company earned national and international recognition for design excellence, culminating in receiving a Citation of Excellence at the National ADDY Awards.
Mark’s financial leadership has been widely recognized. He was named 2017 CFO of the Year – USA by Corporate Vision Magazine and received 2012 CFO of the Year honors from both the Greater Knoxville Business Journal and Financial Executives International. Most recently, he was recognized as a 2024 Difference Maker by ENX Magazine for his impact on the document imaging and technology services industry.
He holds degrees in Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration (cum laude) and is known for his ability to identify and execute business opportunities. His core disciplines include capital project and acquisition analysis, budgeting, financial planning and control, management, new business development, sales leadership, and business startups. Mark has applied his operational and financial expertise across multiple markets, including communications and marketing, energy resources, retail, and technology services.
Prior to joining Centriworks, Mark served as Vice President of Finance for Inspiration Coal, Inc., an $80‑million enterprise. There, he played a key role in developing and implementing a new business plan that brought the company positive cash flow for the first time.
Deeply committed to civic and nonprofit leadership, Mark currently serves as President of the Stephen Holston Chapter of the Tennessee Society, Sons of the American Revolution (TNSSAR) and is a member of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurship & Small Business Council. He served for more than a decade on the Board of the Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee, including terms as Board Secretary and Chair of the Grants Committee. His past service includes leadership and board roles with the Greater Knoxville Tennis Association (Past President), Tennessee Tennis Association (Vice President), Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership, Knoxville Football Club, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, and Mercy Health Partners Foundation.
Mark served as General Chair of the “Labor of Love” tennis event for four years; the event raised more than $1 million over its 14‑year history to support community health initiatives. Inspired by the mission of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, he founded Game‑Set‑Match, a charity benefiting the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center and advancing opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The event was named the Southern Tennis Association’s “Special Event of the Year”.
In 2008, Mark turned his attention to educating business leaders on the measurable bottom‑line benefits of sustainable environmental business practices. He created GoGreenET.com, a regional sustainability resource for East Tennessee businesses, securing strong corporate and media participation. The initiative culminated in Centriworks receiving the “Excellence in Public Education” Award from the Tennessee Department of Transportation / Keep Tennessee Beautiful and a Governor’s Environmental Achievement Award.
Outside of his professional and civic pursuits, Mark enjoys playing the trumpet, pickleball, cardio training, woodworking, and studying history and genealogy.
